Artwork: Gothic Beauty

Gothic Beauty is a classic portrait inspired by Roman busts and vampire movies. The medium is mixed–graphite on paper and digital coloring. A tribal dragon is tattooed onto the shoulder. The teardrops represent a perpetual sadness and loneliness from a life as an undead. (This concept stems from a Zulu story of how a cheetah got her tears).

Since the sun’s out and Easter is arriving, I thought it was time for a Robo Sumo Bunny shirt. The plump character was inspired by KungFu Panda–with his clumsy awkwardness, but loveable personality.

Sabertooth Lion Cub is a mixed media project exploring the darker side of art. You can see the initial graphite drawing devoid of color and gradients. There’s a distinct Giger influence, but I took some artistic licensing in the anatomy of the cub. He’s a little vicious, but a cutey.

Typographic Bird is a shirt design based on typographic explorations of serif letters. The swoosh and wingding elements created an interesting graphic form. This is also available at Zazzle, where the shirt colors could be customized.

Sorrow is my third piece of the Heritage Series (Ghosts of Khmer Rouge and Contemplation), a self-initiated project concerning the historic atrocities in Asia. Originally a personal tribute to my family in regards to their experiences via the Khmer Rouge, I think this particular piece is applicable to the current events as war is still prevalent. Regardless of your position, the effects of war is saddening.

The background of this image was similar to the rest of the Heritage series–patterns from a brush pen infused with a cloud texture in Photoshop. I’ve always loved trees and thought they have many human aspects. The trees of Angkor Wat have so much life to them–they seem to cry out in pain. Combining horror elements with social themes may have a greater impact to the message of the artwork.

I finally got around to creating a Myspace page for Shaire Productions here. With all tasks, there’s always room for improvement, but it’s a start. =0)

This shirt design is a slight remake of a piece I did over the summer. The inspiration of this were the grocery bag designs from Trader Joe’s (with their kitchy Tiki characters eating popsicles) and Hawaiian surfers.
