This artwork was a commissioned piece, a companion to the previous gothic creation Grim Tidings. The color scheme was kept muted, like the original piece, but instead of death or horror themes, light and growth reign free.

I’ve always loved Washington Irving’s “Legend of Sleepy Hallow”. Here is my version of the classic gothic character, complete with a zombie horse. The pencil drawing was colored in Photoshop, with a slight fog added to the background.

This is the first time I incorporated coffee and tea in my artwork. Since I’m not a coffee drinker, the small coffee grinds in the kitchen were finally of use. Also, I found that Darjeeling tea had a darker color over Lipton.
After a few washes, diluted sumi ink was splattered by tapping on the paintbrush. The dragon was then applied with several pens on the very forgiving clayboard. Overall, the creative process was very fun and satisfying.

“Old Mechanical Dragon” is another mixed media piece that had its start as an ink drawing and now lives as a photoshop-textured creation. Dragons are a favorite subject of mine, and they’re always an adventure to produce. I wanted to explore rusty surfaces and took some artistic licenses to my winged creature. The background is a grungy photo texture from one of my many walks around SF.
