The Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) theme is always inspiring and I wanted to create this piece for a while. The hairstyle is a nod to Frida and the color scheme is a contemporary mix. A few different pens were used, with color highlights via photoshop.

“The Soothsayer” is another macabre creation of pen and digital media. Inspirations for this piece varied from music, Tibetan monks, Day of the Dead and ancestral worship skulls of Africa. I love how old civilizations respect death as part of life, rather than as an unmentionable evil.

I’ve always loved Washington Irving’s “Legend of Sleepy Hallow”. Here is my version of the classic gothic character, complete with a zombie horse. The pencil drawing was colored in Photoshop, with a slight fog added to the background.
